Sam Houston: Josie G. looks strong

Josie G. takes a dramatic class drop Saturday night when she goes from the Grade 2, $150,000 Silverbulletday into the $30,000 Sam Houston Oaks. The one-mile race for 3-year-old fillies drew 10.

Josie G. was bet down to 3-1 last out in the Silverbulletday at Fair Grounds and finished fourth to Shadow Cast. Prior to that race, Josie G. was second, beaten three-quarters of a length by Lotta Kim, in the $100,000 Tiffany Lass, also in New Orleans.

Eddie Martin Jr. will be in to ride Josie G. for Greg England and trainer Bret Calhoun.

Other contenders in the Oaks include Lucky Tunnel, winner of the $30,000 Super Bowl Stakes at Sam Houston; Beau Watch, second last out in the $50,000 Cincinnati Trophy on Jan. 17; Perennial Favorite, who has won her last two starts; and Olympic Emblem, an 11-length maiden winner last out for trainer John Locke.
