Sally’s Sassy caught stretch leader Rousing Jewel in the final furlong and held off a late threat from Always at Ease to win her first stakes in Friday’s $66,700 Golden Gate Debutante for 2-year-old fillies at Golden Gate Fields. Sally’s Sassy was popular with bettors, going off as the 5-2 favorite despite losses in stakes on turf at Del Mar and Golden Gate Fields in the last two months. Trained by Jonathan Wong for Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, Sally’s Sassy started on the synthetic track at Golden Gate Fields for the first time in the Debutante. Ridden by William Antongeorgi, Sally’s Sally closed from off the pace with a wide move to reach contention in the stretch. Rousing Jewel led by 1 1/2 lengths with a furlong remaining, but could not sustain the advantage. Sally’s Sassy and Always at Ease (4-1) closed as a pair on the outside, with Sally’s Sassy prevailing by a nose. Rousing Jewel (6-1) held third, a head behind Always at Ease. Sally’s Sassy ($7.40) ran six furlongs in 1:10.70 and earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 64. Majestic Oops finished fourth, followed by Imaginary, Bet de Vron, Juana Gallo, and Ketanji. :: DRF Black Friday Sale: Save 20% on DRF PPs, Clocker Reports, and other handicapping essentials Sally’s Sassy, by West Coast, has won 2 of 4 starts and earned $88,000.
