A filly by Quality Road sold for $1.5 million to lead the opening session of the one-off Fasig-Tipton selected yearling showcase Wednesday in Lexington, Ky., which also represented the belated start to the major-market North American yearling sale season.
Eclipse Award champions Monomoy Girl, Midnight Bisou, and Uni will be offered for sale at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale the evening of Nov. 8. The sale is set for one day after all three champions may start at the Breeders' Cup at nearby Keeneland, with a compelling rematch between Monomoy Girl and Midnight Bisou a possible headliner.
Gun Runner and Arrogate's stars were tied together on the racetrack as rivals, each taking his turn to rise to a championship season. Both champions entered stud in the same year in Kentucky, and the racetrack rivals became commercial rivals, with similar stud fees and well-received weanlings that shone for them early on in their careers. There's now a sense of anticipation for their first yearlings to come to sale in a major market.

Finney Sale Pavilion in Saratoga was quiet this August – not for a lack of interest in the New York-bred program, but because the coronavirus pandemic forced Fasig-Tipton to reimagine its sales calendar. New York-breds who might otherwise have been featured at the selected statebred sale will thus compete against “open company” in the Kentucky sales rings at Fasig-Tipton and at Keeneland September.
