A filly from the final crop of the late Dynaformer created fireworks late in the opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale Monday night, bringing the hammer down at $1,225,000 to Goncalo Torrealba’s Borges Torrealba operation.

Barry Irwin, the managing partner of the Team Valor racing partnership, went deep on two yearlings early on in the first session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale on Monday night, spending $875,000 on a Medaglia d’Oro colt and $600,000 on an Indian Charlie filly, the second- and third-highest prices at the session at the halfway mark.
Fasig-Tipton’s Saratoga select yearling sale, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, looks likely to improve on its 2012 auction figures, thanks largely to a smaller catalog and a healthy demand for ultra-select young stock.

The sale, which will be held at the Ike Hamilton Center in West Monroe, La., is affiliated with the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association. It will begin at 11 a.m. Central.
