Sale races moved to Meadowlands

Two races sponsored by the National Association of 2-Year-Old Consignors - the NATC Colt and Filly futurities - will move from Monmouth Park to the Meadowlands this year.

The two six-furlong races, set for Sept. 29, are open to horses cataloged to a 2-year-old sale this year and whose consignors have contributed to the NATC's advertising fund. Both races have $200,000-guaranteed purses and each receives $100,000 from the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. Fields are limited to 14 starters, with preference given to horses with the highest earnings.

Monmouth Park will host the Breeders' Cup this year on Oct. 26-27, and the consignors' association executives hope their Sept. 29 races can capitalize on that proximity, according to an association board member, Mike Mulligan.
