Sail By shows Gyarmati another dimension

ELMONT, N.Y. - Trainer Leah Gyarmati was happy to see Sail By show a new dimension in upsetting Saturday’s Grade 2 Miss Grillo Stakes by a length over Kinchen. She believes that will serve her well in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Nov. 5 at Del Mar.
Sail By sat an up-close second to a slow pace and still showed a strong late kick that she did when she came from off the pace to win a maiden race sprinting here in the summer. She won the Miss Grillo by a length over Kinchen.
“I love that even though she was close up to the pace she had that fight,” Gyarmati said. “I got a little nervous, but she dug in and edged away. I think she’s versatile. I think she can be anywhere depending how the race sets up.
“We were hoping she would stretch out. Her first race, that’s what it looked like she wanted to do,” Gyarmati added. “Now, she showed us she’s got some speed if you need to use it. That’s kind of a nice little handy set of skills to bring into a good race.”
