Sadler's plans for Anywho don't include challenging Munnys Gold

Steve Andersen|Mar 29, 2023

Trainer John Sadler has a strategic race schedule in mind for Anywho, a 3-year-old filly who won an allowance race at seven furlongs at Santa Anita on Monday.

“I’ll go almost anywhere Munnys Gold is not going,” he said on Wednesday.

Munnys Gold, trained by Todd Pletcher, has won her first three starts by a combined 38 lengths. She won her stakes debut by 17 1/4 lengths in the $100,000 Stonehenge Farms South Sophomore Fillies Stakes for Florida-breds at seven furlongs in track-record time of 1:20.09 at Tampa Bay Downs last Sunday.

Munnys Gold earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 106, the highest for a 3-year-old this year. Pletcher said earlier this week that Munnys Gold is a candidate for the Grade 2 Eight Belles Stakes at seven furlongs at Churchill Downs on May 5.

Anywho ran a fine race Monday in her first start of 2023 and first for Sadler. Ridden by Flavien Prat, Anywho was always near the front and won by two lengths, finishing seven furlongs in 1:23.05. Anywho earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 90, a career best in her second start.

“We think she’s a good one,” Sadler said. “We like the way she won and the time and everything.”

Anywho, owned by Hronis Racing, was purchased for $290,000 at Keeneland last November, shortly after winning a seven-furlong maiden race at Aqueduct.

Sadler said the Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks at 1 1/16 miles on April 8 comes too soon for Anywho, who is by Bolt d’Oro. Anywho was nominated on Thursday to the Grade 2 Beaumont Stakes, a $400,000 race at about seven furlongs at Keeneland on April 16.

The stable has another new runner in Seisai, a 4-year-old Irish-bred filly bought in December for approximately $457,000 at a sale in England. Seisai, who is owned by William Farish, is an intended starter in Saturday’s Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes, a $200,000 race for fillies and mares at a mile on turf at Santa Anita.

Seisai won a minor stakes in Ireland in 2021, and was second or third in three stakes in that country last year.
