Los Alamitos Race Course

Sadler has Adens Dream, Horse Greedy in allowance feature

Emily Shields Adens Dream wins on May 27. He steps up to allowance company Sunday.

CYPRESS, Calif. – Adens Dream ran in claiming races in seven consecutive starts from last August to May 27. He is not for sale on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Adens Dream will start in a $55,000 allowance race at five furlongs where the 6-year-old gelding has an excellent chance for his third win in his last four starts.

“I think he’s on the improve,” trainer John Sadler said. “I want to protect him for this start.”

The allowance race has only five starters and Sadler trains two of them. He starts Horse Greedy, who was third in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes at Santa Anita in June 2018 and last of seven in the Grade 3 Daytona Stakes at five furlongs on turf there May 25 while making his first start since October.

The other runners are the New Mexico stakes winners Hardcore Troubador and Secular Nation, and Calexman, who was third in three turf stakes last year. This will be the shortest race of Calexman’s career.

KEY CONTENDERS

Adens Dream, by Wildcat Heir

Last 3 Beyers: 95-85-88

◗ Adens Dream and Horse Greedy are owned by Sadler’s principal clients Pete and Kosta Hronis. Adens Dream joined Sadler’s stable in the spring of 2018 and has won 2 of 9 starts in that span, both this year. On May 27, Adens Dream won an allowance race with a $40,000 claiming option at 6 1/2 furlongs by 4 1/4 lengths after fighting for the early lead. He was eligible to be claimed.

“He ran an unbelievable race,” Sadler said. “I want to go here against a higher group.”

Horse Greedy, by Horse Greeley

Last 3 Beyers: 71-91-94

◗ Horse Greedy broke slowly in the Daytona Stakes and was never a factor, finishing 8 3/4 lengths behind winner and course specialist Eddie Haskell, who returned to win the Siren Lure Stakes for turf sprinters at Santa Anita last Sunday.

“Horse Greedy did not like the turf,” Sadler said. “If you throw the last race, he’s in a good, competitive spot.”

◗ Horse Greedy won his only start at Los Alamitos, an optional claimer at 6 1/2 furlongs in September 2016.

◗ While Adens Dream is likely to be near the front, Horse Greedy does not have as much speed and is likely to race as a stalker.

“I think they are two good horses,” Sadler said. “It’s a good pot. Hopefully, we can take it down.”

Secular Nation, by Distorted Humor

Last 3 Beyers: 73-87-69

◗ Secular Nation and Hardcore Troubador were first and second in an allowance race for Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds at 1,000 yards at SunRay Park in New Mexico on May 25. Previously trained by the late Henry Dominguez, Secular Nation arrived at trainer Peter Miller’s stable from Ruidoso Downs earlier this week.

Miller is getting to know Secular Nation this week and expects the colt to be a factor from off the pace under jockey Flavien Prat.

“He shipped in well,” Miller said. “I think we’ll sit off the pace. I’m leaving it up to Flavien.”
