Sadler barn ready for twin bill

Jay Privman|Jul 31, 2008

DEL MAR, Calif. - At Del Mar on Friday, CERF's up for trainer John Sadler, who has a chance to sweep both $75,000 divisions of the six-furlong California Equine Retirement Foundation Handicap for female sprinters.

In the first division, the fourth race on the 4 p.m. Friday program, Sadler has entered the speedy Tizsweetdreams and South African import Woodland City. Sadler will send out Coco Belle in the second division, the seventh race on the card. Both races have eight entrants.

The first of the two divisions appears to be far deeper, and should produce a quick, contested pace. Tizsweetdreams, La Tee, Kalookan Dancer, and Overly Tempting all have done their best on or near the lead.

"My concern is all that speed in there,"Sadler said at his barn on Wednesday morning. "The first half came up with all the speed."

Tizsweetdreams will be making her stakes debut, but she should be a major player based on her swift victory against a first-level allowance field last time out at Hollywood Park on July 5.

"She went 44 and change when horses weren't running that fast there," Sadler said. "She's very gifted."

But Tizsweetdreams only has one way to go - "You can't drag her off the pace," Sadler said - so she should be in for a fight from the start.

Woodland City has raced twice on dirt and five times on turf. This would be her first race on a synthetic surface. She won 5 of 7 in her native country.

La Tee, who will start from post 3, is an intriguing longshot. Though all her races have been on turf, she is turning back to a sprint and owns three wins in four tries sprinting.

"There's a lot of speed in there, so she's going to have to come from off of it," said Mark Glatt, who trains La Tee. "The only thing that worries me is that she's not used to having stuff come back in her face. You don't know how she'll react when it comes back. I wish she was drawn outside."

Highland Torree narrowly beat Tizsweetdreams two starts back at Hollywood. Kalookan Dancer is making the third start of her form cycle, and is coming off a fast win at Solano. Spenditallbaby should be a potent late threat.

In the second division, Coco Belle will try to avenge a loss to Silky Smooth on the Hollywood turf on June 11.

"She ran on turf her last two because we couldn't get a race to go for her on [the main track]," Sadler said.

Unspoken Word has been facing better company, and should get a good trip from the outside stall.
