Sadler aiming high with Edwards Going Left, Selcourt

ARCADIA, Calif. – Two of the fastest sprinters in January at Santa Anita – both trained by John Sadler – will try to become graded stakes winners next out.
Edwards Going Left, who earned a 102 Beyer winning the California Cup Sprint by six lengths last Saturday, and the filly Selcourt, who crushed the Kalookan Queen Stakes with a 96 Beyer on Jan. 14, both could be favored while seeking their first graded win.
Sadler said Edwards Going Left came out of the Cal Cup Sprint in top shape and will make his next start March 10 here in the Grade 1, $400,000 Triple Bend Stakes.
“I like his pattern,” Sadler said, referring to the gelding’s figures.
Edwards Going Left’s last five Beyers: 79, 89, 93, 98 and 102. Edwards Going Left has won seven races and $381,390 in 10 starts since being claimed last February for $50,000 by Sadler and Hronis Racing.
Selcourt, who dazzled the Kalookan Queen by more than seven lengths in her comeback, came out of her race in such top shape that Sadler will not wait for the Grade 2 Santa Monica Stakes on late March.
Instead, Sadler said Selcourt will run back Feb. 18 in the Grade 3, $100,000 Las Flores Stakes. That 6 1/2-furlong race also is the comeback target for Skye Diamonds, who last year emerged as one of the top female sprinters in California. Skye Diamonds finished fourth last out in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.
Selcourt worked a half-mile on Jan. 28, and afteward Sadler said she is training so well that he will run her in the Las Flores. Selcourt, owned by a partnership that includes breeder Keith Abrahams, has won 2 of 4 starts.
