Sadie Lady's early lead enough to hold off Call On Mischief in Correction

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Sadie Lady used her speed to open a clear early advantage and then held on to win Saturday’s $100,000 Correction Stakes by a head over longshot Call On Mischief, capping a sensational afternoon for trainer Rob Atras.
Sadie Lady gave Atras his fourth win from five starters on Aqueduct’s 10-race card. He now has 19 wins from 85 starters at the meet and is two behind Linda Rice for second in the standings. Rudy Rodriguez is the clear leader with 32 winners.
In addition to Sadie Lady’s victory in the Correction, Atras won the opener with the 3-year-old maiden gelding Saint Selby ($8.90); race 4, a $10,000 claimer, with Heavy Roller ($3.60); and race 5, a $16,000 claimer, with Storm Advisory ($6.20). The only blemish on the day was a fifth-place finish by Musical America in a salty optional claiming race.

“So many things have to go right just to win one race from the time you enter the horse,” Atras said. “Coming into today I thought we had some live shots, but I’m just very grateful that we were able to win four.”
For the second straight week, Atras won a sprint stakes with a speed horse in a race that looked to have other speed types. Last week it was Chateau in the Grade 3 Tom Fool.
Atras said he wanted Sadie Lady on the lead because “she just gets very brave when she gets to the front,” he said.
Sadie Lady’s tactics were made somewhat easier with the scratch of Jump for Joy and a bad break by Awesome Debate. Manny Franco was able to get Sadie Lady to a one-length lead through a quarter in 23.12 seconds and a half-mile in 46.62.
“I was happy with the break because I know that’s the way she likes to run,” said Franco, who won three races on the card. “After that I just wanted to see where she would take me. She’s a brave filly when she’s in front.”
Initially chased by Amuse and Kansas Kis, Sadie Lady was confronted by Call On Mischief at the quarter pole. Sadie Lady kept that rival at bay through the lane, holding on by a head.
Sadie Lady came out a path while Call On Mischief came in a path. The two brushed late and Nik Juarez, the rider of Call On Mischief, claimed foul against the winner. The stewards, who also put up a general inquiry sign, dismissed the claim.
Sadie Lady, a 5-year-old New York-bred daughter of Freud owned by Dennis Narlinger, covered the six furlongs in 1:11.98 and returned $13 as the third choice in a field of six.
Call On Mischief finished 1 1/2 lengths ahead of third-place finisher Kansas Kis. Amuse was fourth followed by Prairie Fire and Awesome Debate.
