ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Ryder Ryder Ryder came from well off a hot pace to win the $100,000 Ruling Angel Stakes going away over Grade 1 Natalma winner Last Call on Saturday at Woodbine.
Collecting Flatter and Renegade Rebel dueled up front in the seven-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies, while Ryder Ryder Ryder bided her time near the rear of the six-horse field along the inside.
Ryder Ryder Ryder ($6.50) was angled wide for the drive and then mowed down the leaders in midstretch en route to a seven-length tally, in a quick time of 1:21.79.
Last Call edged out Attabe for second. Collecting Flatter held on for fourth and was followed by Bulsara and Renegade Rebel. Dolce Sopresa and Ticker Tape Home were withdrawn.
Patrick Husbands rode Ryder Ryder Ryder and was also aboard when the daughter of Quality Road finished a troubled second to Renegade Rebel in her previous race in the Grade 3 Mazarine in November.
“She always showed us she’s a nice filly,” Husbands recalled. “The last stakes race I rode her in, as the gates opened, she reared up. I bided my time and she just got beat a (neck). I got on her in Florida and she was going good. I breezed her twice here and she was doing it so easy. I was licking my chops. I came into this race with a lot of confidence.”
Kentucky-bred Ryder Ryder Ryder banked $60,000 in her first stakes success for Live Oak Plantation.
