Ruvies in Time raced against bias in last start

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – On a day when most of the winners were outside closers, Ruvies in Time had speed and the rail. The fact she ran third, beaten just one length, on that Jan. 31 afternoon at Aqueduct was more than satisfactory to trainer Richard Schosberg.
“I thought her last effort was tremendous given it was a real, real strong outside closers’ bias,” Schosberg said. “That was one day where everybody was coming seven wide and catching up. Naturally, we drew the rail. We had speed you don’t want to harness. She probably ran a much better race than either the chart or her bank account would indicate.”
Friday, Ruvies in Time will break from post 2 and looks like the primary speed in a six-horse field at the same second-level New York-bred allowance that serves as the feature on Aqueduct’s eight-race card. Ruvies in Time has sort of turned things around since she won a $12,500 claiming race for Schosberg last October at Belmont. That followed three straight bad efforts.
“She’s the type of horse that needed some confidence,” Schosberg said. “We figured looking at the race, would we take her? Fifty-fifty. We took a shot; it was the right thing to do. She got a lot of confidence, and except for one race she has run back to that effort.”
Ruvies in Time, a 5-year-old daughter of The Factor, will face a familiar rival in Miss Jimmy, who actually has finished in front of her three times since last November.

Miss Jimmy, a 5-year-old daughter of Colonel John, has a remarkably consistent record of 8-8-1 from 19 career starts. Most of those races have come for Bruce Anderson, a Finger Lakes-based trainer who traditionally takes the winter off. Miss Jimmy has made her last four starts for John Toscano Jr., including finishing second – a half-length in front of Ruvies in Time – in the aforementioned Jan. 31 race.
“Last time out she had a bad trip, the inside was horrible and she was on the inside most of the way,” Toscano said.
Toscano acknowledged that Ruvies in Time is the horse to beat, saying, “If I can beat Schosberg, I’ll win.”
Dylan Davis rides Miss Jimmy from post 3.
Courageous Girl and Impazible Donna step up into this condition coming off first-level allowances. Courageous Girl has actually put in two solid efforts from off the pace for trainer David Donk, who said he would prefer to run the filly a little longer than six furlongs.
Impazible Donna finished behind Miss Jimmy and Ruvies in Time last November at Belmont, but has seemed to raise her game since moving over to Aqueduct.
Dublinornothin, an allowance winner on Feb. 6, is the only member of this field in for the $40,000 claiming tag. Fight On Lucy completes the field.
