Rush On By gets home first in Shesastonecoldfox Stakes

Rush On By remained unbeaten on her young career by holding on for a front-running victory in Monday's $50,000 Shesastonecoldfox Stakes for New York-bred juvenile fillies at Finger Lakes.
The Alpha filly races as a homebred for perennial New York leaders Chester and Mary Broman, and gave trainer Christopher Progno his first Finger Lakes stakes victory.
Rush On By ($4.40), sent away favored in a short field of four after the scratch of her stablemate, Spin a Yarn, was away quickly under Oscar Gomez, quickly opening up a length lead through opening splits of 23.15 seconds and 46.92 seconds for the half. Second choice Single Verse, who had stalked her in second throughout, ranged up on the outside to challenge, but Rush On By refused to let her foe by, crossing the wire three-quarters of a length in front and finishing the six furlongs in 1:12.63.
After the top two, the short field was strung out, with Peripherique 12 1/4 lengths back in third, and Thea's Theme bringing up the rear another 11 3/4 lengths back
Rush On By is now undefeated in two career starts after winning her debut by 12 lengths on Oct. 8 at Finger Lakes.
The Shesastonecoldfox – which is named for the Finger Lakes-based New York-bred champion 2-year-old filly of 2001 – was the final stakes of 2019 at Finger Lakes. The track will continue to race through Nov. 27.
