Runnning Brook Gal completes Jones's dream weekend

Mary Rampellini|Sep 07, 2009

Runnning Brook Girl dominated the Grade 1, $1.9 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on Monday, much the way her trainer, Paul Jones, has been ruling Quarter Horse racing. The national training champ the past seven years, Jones picked up his third All American win on Monday, a day after he sent out Inseperable to take the Grade 1, $624,784 All American Derby.

"It was an excellent weekend," Jones said. "It doesn't get any better than this - the derby then coming back and winning the futurity. It's just phenomenal."

Runnning Brook Gal ($9.20) broke sharply and ran straight and true Monday to cover the 440 yards on a track rated fast in 21.14 seconds. Ramon Sanchez was aboard for A & C Racing and Roping.

"She was awesome," Jones said. "She broke on the lead and she just cleared and the further they went the better she got."

Plans for Runnning Brook Gal's next start are yet to be determined, but Jones said there is a chance she could race next at the Zia Park meet in Hobbs, N.M. It opens on Saturday.

Runnning Brook Gal had the distinction of qualifying for all three Grade 1 futurities run this meet at Ruidoso, which closed out its season Monday. She was sixth in the Ruidoso Futurity in June and second in the Rainbow Futurity in July before peaking in the All American.

Runnning Brook Gal, a daughter of former Jones trainee Brookstone Bay, was bred in Utah by her owners, Albert and Chad Richard. She earned $1 million for her win in the All American.

Love Samba, who was the 9-5 favorite in the All American after turning in the fastest qualifying time during trials Aug. 20, lost her footing at the start in the finale, and finished fifth. Runnning Brook Gal was the second fastest qualifier for the All American.

Jones previously won the All American Futurity in 2005 with Teller Cartel and in 2006 with No Secrets Here. He was honored Monday as the leading trainer this meet at Ruidoso. Jones, who also is the current leading trainer in the nation, has divisions of his stable at the New Mexico track and Los Alamitos in California.

The remaining order of finish in the All American was Shesa First Ratify in second, followed by First Corona Call, Favorite Cartel, Love Samba, Swingin Daddyo, Winners Cartel, Gols Victory Pop, and Jess So Sixy. Brooks Midnight was scratched.
