The Runaway Favorite starts season in strong 400-yard allowance
Nine times in 2018 and 2019, The Runaway Favorite started in time trials for major futurities or derbies at Los Alamitos and Ruidoso Downs.
He won a trial race once, but failed to qualify for the Ruidoso, Rainbow, All American, Golden State Million, or Los Alamitos Million futurities in 2018, or the Ruidoso, Rainbow, All American, or Los Alamitos Winter derbies last year.
The Runaway Favorite was ninth in a division of the All American Derby trials last August, his final start of 2019. For his 2020 debut, and his 10th career start, The Runaway Favorite will start for the first time in an allowance race at 400 yards on Friday at Remington Park.
The allowance race is restricted to nonwinners of three. Officially, The Runaway Favorite has two career wins. He was promoted from second to first in a division of the Rainbow Futurity trials in July 2018 after race winner Lethal Lil was disqualified because of a medication violation.
The allowance is the 10th and last race on a program that begins at 6 p.m. Central. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
Owned by Bobby Simmons and trained by Clinton Crawford, The Runaway Favorite will be ridden by Cody Smith.
