ETOBICOKE, Ontario − Favored Runaway Again mounted an impressive rally under Ryan Munger to prevail in Saturday’s Grade 3, $208,950 Autumn at Woodbine.
English Actor set moderate fractions under Rafael Hernandez with William T and Swift Delivery in close proximity. Runaway Again saved ground at the back of the pack before Munger swung him wide for the drive, and he closed with a rush to win going away by 2 3/4 lengths, in a time of 1:50.57.
English Actor finished a clear second over William T. Wicked Django faded to fourth after making a threatening wide bid and was followed by Swift Delivery and War Court.
“I just had to give him daylight at the top of the lane and he mowed them down like the favorite should,” said Munger, who won four races on the card. “It was a very deserved win from him today. The trick with him is you have to do everything the way he wants it to be done.”
The victory, his second graded stakes score at the meet, made Runaway Again the leading candidate for Canadian champion older male on the main track honors in Canada this year. Trainer Sid Attard was non-committal regarding the next start for the quirky son of Hard Spun, who hadn’t raced since a narrow loss in the Aug. 1 Seagram Cup Stakes due to a minor problem.
“We’re going to see what’s there for him,” Attard said. “He’s a fresh horse. He’s feeling good. We’ll see.”
Runaway Again banked $126,000 for Stronach Stables.
