Run to the Beat light on racing, heavy on talent

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – With time running out for turf racing at the meet, Run to the Beat will try to remain unbeaten over Woodbine’s expansive course in the featured second-level optional claimer for fillies and mares on Friday.

The 3-year-old Run to the Beat wound up fifth after a slow start at Gulfstream in March in her first race, after which she went to the sidelines.

Run to the Beat returned from a six-month layoff Sept. 2, coming from third to land a maiden special weight sprint over a modest group. She subsequently doubled up in a first-level allowance, defeating a solid field that included Street Cash and Kasuga.

On Friday, Run to the Beat stretches out from six to seven furlongs, with Patrick Husbands subbing for the suspended Eurico Da Silva in the irons.

The feature goes as race 8 on a nine-race card that has two other grass events. The temporary rail will be in the outermost lane 5.

KEY CONTENDERS

Run to the Beat, by Scat Daddy

Beyers: 81-78-58

◗ The blue-blooded Sam-Son Farm homebred has improved with each outing.

◗ Trainer Malcolm Pierce sent her out to work a half-mile in a bullet 48 seconds over the turf training course here Oct. 14.

Tesalina, by Fusaichi Pegasus

Last 3 Beyers: 79-87-89

◗ Her trainer, Wesley Ward, rarely wins at Woodbine outside of April, and this Chilean import is winless in seven starts in North America. She has been idle since mid-April, when she faded to ninth behind Exaggerated and Cactus Kris in the Giant’s Causeway Stakes at Keeneland. She was previously a front-running third in a stakes going down the hill at Santa Anita.

Silent Treat, by Silent Name

Last 3 Beyers: 79-84-61

◗ She dueled up front with another stakes winner, Green Doctor, before tiring to fourth behind that sharp rival in a shorter optional claimer Sept. 30.

◗ Expect her to make most of the running under Michelle Rainford.

Wealthy Shipman, by Midshipman

Last 3 Beyers: 60-73-85

◗ She was in fine form prior to her last race, which was moved from turf to the Tapeta. She faded to finish a distant sixth in that race after racing in midpack.

◗ She hasn’t sprinted since June 15, when she won a $40,000 conditioned claimer on the grass.

Interject, by Empire Maker

Last 3 Beyers: 65-67-84

◗ A router, she has had a little break since a dull effort in a key nine-furlong contest Sept. 9.

◗ Her trainer, Mark Casse, excels with horses cutting back in distance, and this one has worked regularly leading up to this race.
