Run Away points to Breeders' Cup Juvenile

ARCADIA, Calif. - Run Away, the winner of three sprint stakes for 2-year-olds in Southern California this year, is a candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Del Mar on Nov. 4, trainer Simon Callaghan said Sunday.
The BC Juvenile is run at 1 1/16 miles and would be Run Away’s first start around two turns.
“I think he deserves a shot,” Callaghan said. “We haven’t totally made up our minds.”
Owned by Kaleem Shah, Run Away won the Barretts Juvenile at 6 1/2 furlongs at Los Alamitos on Sept. 23. Run Away won the Santa Anita Juvenile at 5 1/2 furlongs in July and the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs at Del Mar in August.
On Sept. 4, Run Away finished third to division leader Bolt d’Oro in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurtity at seven furlongs, fading in the final furlong to lose by 5 1/2 lengths.
“He was on the inside and there was a super strong pace,” Callaghan said.
In the Barretts Juvenile, Run Away was 1-5 and closed from fifth in the final furlong to win by a head. Saturday at Santa Anita, Run Away worked five furlongs in 1:01.80, his first workout since the Barretts Juvenile.
“He’s been training very good,” Callaghan said. “There’s nice spacing between races.”
Callaghan has three 2-year-old hopefuls for the Breeders’ Cup. On Nov. 3, Encumbered runs in the Juvenile Turf. On Nov. 4, Moonshine Memories may go favored in the Juvenile Fillies.
