Rules R Rules shortens up successfully

Rules R Rules relished the cut back to a sprint to defeat favored Winning Image by three-quarters of a length in Saturday's $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies Stakes.

Coming back two weeks after dueling up front early and stopping when asked to attempt two turns for the first time in the Blue Hen at Delaware Park, Rules R Rules ($10.20) sat third, two lengths behind pacesetter Winning Image, through a half-mile in 45.86. Jockey Pedro Rodriguez asked Rules R Rules for her best run in the stretch and she overtook the previously unbeaten Winning Image, the 2-1 favorite off back-to-back easy victories at Suffolk Downs.

Based at Delaware with trainer Mike Gorham, Rules R Rules ran the six furlongs on a fast track in 1:14.78 in winning for the third time in five starts.

Thundered finished third, a length behind Winning Image, as a 47-1 longshot.

Locally based Too Tough to Smile was seventh as the 9-5 favorite.
