Royal Charlotte wins the 2019 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga
Barbara D. Livingston Royal Charlotte will be making her third start of the year in the Regret Stakes.

Royal Charlotte made a splash last year when she won the first four races of her career, including a stakes at Monmouth Park.

She’s back at the Jersey Shore track on Sunday for the $75,000 Regret.

The six-furlong race for fillies and mares is slotted as the fifth on a 13-race program that gets underway at 12:50 p.m. Eastern.

The Regret goes with a field of seven that includes Bronx Beauty, a seven-time stakes winner, and Bridlewood Cat, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Sweet Loretta.

KEY CONTENDERS

Royal Charlotte, by Cairo Prince

Last 3 Beyers: 60-88-86

◗ Royal Charlotte won the Hystericalady Stakes in May 2019 at Monmouth Park as part of a win streak that included a maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park in March, a first-level allowance at Keeneland in April, and the Grade 3 Victory Ride at Belmont Park in July.

◗ Royal Charlotte’s streak ended with a sixth-place finish to eventual champion Covfefe in the Test in August at Saratoga. However, Royal Charlotte bounced back one start later with a win in that track’s Grade 2 Prioress as part of a season in which she went 5 for 7.

◗ Royal Charlotte has raced twice this year, finishing second in the Harmony Lodge and fifth in the Grade 3 Vagrancy, both over wet tracks in June at Belmont Park. Royal Charlotte won the Victory Ride and Prioress over fast tracks.

◗ Royal Charlotte has tactical speed and could get an ideal trip off Decoupage, Day by Day, Bridlewood Cat, and perhaps Bronx Beauty.

◗ Joe Bravo has the mount for First Row Partners and Parkland Thoroughbreds. Chad Brown trains Royal Charlotte, one of three starters he has on the card, including Assiduously in a first-level allowance route on turf set as race 10.

Bronx Beauty, by Liaison

Last 3 Beyers: 77-79-78

◗ She has recency on Royal Charlotte courtesy of a third-place finish in the Dr. Teresa Garofalo Memorial Sakes on Sept. 7 at Parx.

◗ Bronx Beauty is 3 for 4 at her home base of Monmouth.

◗ Isaac Castillo has the mount for 2W Stable and trainer Anthony Margotta.

Bridlewood Cat, by Street Sense

Last 3 Beyers: 69-73-71

◗ She exits a second-level allowance at Saratoga on Aug. 7, in which she contested the pace and finished fifth after breaking from the rail. It was her second straight draw on the fence, following the License Fee in which she finished seventh July 3 at Belmont.

◗ Bridlewood Cat will start from post 7 on Saturday.
