Royal Ascot: So You Think defeats Carlton House in Prince of Wales’s

The 10th Group 1 stakes win by So You Think in Wednesday’s Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot was part of a family day for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

His son Joseph won his first career race at Royal Ascot aboard So You Think, who won by 2 1/4 lengths as the 4-5 favorite, defeating Carlton House, owned by the Queen of England.

Earlier on the six-race program, Aidan O’Brien won the Group 3 Jersey Stakes with the 20-1 shot Ishvana, owned by his wife, Ann Marie.

So You Think, a Group 1 stakes winner in Australia and Ireland earlier in his career, won for the first time at Ascot, having finished second in the 2011 Prince of Wales’s Stakes and Champion Stakes.

Wednesday, So You Think was well-placed throughout the 1 1/4 miles.

Joseph O’Brien had So You Think in third for the first mile, tracking pacesetter (and stablemate) Robin Hood and the American invader Big Blue Kitten.

With a quarter-mile remaining, So You Think took the lead, and drew off in the final furlong over 7-2 Carlton House. Farhh, owned by Godolpin Racing, finished third, overcoming a touch of trouble in the stretch.

Big Blue Kitten, owned by Americans Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, faded through the stretch to finish 10th in the field of 11.

So You Think, a 6-year-old New Zealand-bred horse owned by a partnership, could make his next start in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park outside of London on July 7.
