Royal Ascot 2021 Stats Guides: Golden Gates Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEThis is the second running of this handicap over 1m2f for three-year-olds rated 0-105 (though horses rated 106-107 are also eligible). The first running was won by the top weight, Highland Chief, who was drawn widest of all from stall 16 and went on to contest the Derby, beating the subsequent Adonis Hurdle winner, Tritonic, into second.
The winner was one of three handicap winners at the meeting sporting first-time headgear - an angle adopted by some punters for handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival.
There were previously three other three-year-old handicaps at Royal Ascot (Britannia, Sandringham and King George V) and the two trainers to have cumulatively fared best in those are Mark Johnston and John Gosden with nine and eight winners respectively.
In two of the three aforementioned three-year-old handicaps at the meeting, it has been prudent to concentrate on later developers as 17 of the last 27 King George V winners and 13 of the last 25 winners of the Sandringham started their season as a maiden.
