Royal Ascot 2020: Wednesday's Tote tips
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEJamie Lynch hit an exacta and a place bet with his selections on Tuesday and has more picks for Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY'S PLACEPOT PERM
There are big-field handicaps in here that demand due care and attention, meaning bankers are your best friends to keep the perm manageable, FIRST RECEIVER a more confident solo selection than JAPAN, who Is in a seven-runner Prince of Wales’s Stakes, meaning only two places up for grabs, which is a bit wobbly for a reappearing runner, however big the race. The two-year-old races are all the more frightening this year with so little to go on, but we saw enough from MIGHTY GURKHA and TACTICAL on their debut to think they’ll be competitive in the Windsor Castle. And, as for those wide-open handicaps, it’s a case of a little knowledge and a lot of luck, three darts needed for my money for both the Royal Hunt Cup and its silver consolation, while in between relying on KIPPS and WIN O’CLOCK in the King George V Stakes. .

WEDNESDAY'S EXOTIC BET
This is playing a hunch, but the Guineas was such an intense race, in which Juan Elcano was always in the thick of things, that it may be worth betting that he won’t be the same force here, in the face of such a tight turnaround of 11 days. I’m putting FIRST RECEIVER on top and perming both RUSSIAN EMPEROR and BERLIN TANGO underneath him, hoping to knock it out of the park.
1.50: Trifecta (2 Bets): 3-8-1, 3-1-8
WIN ONLY BET
Something different to stimulate the mind: that’s the theory with a win only bet on WILLIE JOHN, whose mind doesn’t always seem on the job, hence a disappointing career so far, compared to what he promised, but first time out is often a good time to catch these tricky customers, and this new challenge to him – of a straight mile, having raced over longer trips in the main – might just stir him into action. If so – and it’s a big ‘if’ – he’s well handicapped on his best form.
3.35: 13 (WILLIE JOHN)

PLACE ONLY BET
Some horses just look like they’ll love Ascot, normally those with a high cruising speed, and that’s why I think ALRIGHT SUNSHINE has the skill-set to play a big part in the Copper Horse Handicap. He did nothing but improve through 2019, and his return at Newcastle – in Group company – contained more than a hint that he was good to go again this year, starting in earnest here, over his ideal trip.
4.40: 3 (ALRIGHT SUNSHINE)
