Rosie’s Halo and Dreamster look like the main players in a first-level allowance race with a $25,000 claiming option that serves as the feature Sunday at Gulfstream Park. The one-mile race on the main track for fillies and mares drew nine horses and goes as race 9 on a 10-race program that begins at 12:40 p.m. Dreamster finished a length in front of Rosie’s Halo going six furlongs at the same level Feb. 26 at Gulfstream. However, the edge Sunday could go to the Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained Rosie’s Halo, who took a step forward when she finished a half-length behind winner Poiema going seven furlongs for the same condition April 6. Making her second start as a 4-year-old, Rosie’s Halo broke well enough, but ended up being stuck on the rail behind Poiema and Greatitude and did not find racing room until it was too late. A Florida-bred daughter of Jess’s Dream, Rosie’s Halo will be going a middle distance for the first time. She is the first foal out of Shackalou who finished fifth in her only start, which came going 1 1/16 miles on turf. She should get plenty of stamina from her sire who also started only once, winning a maiden special weight race over 1 1/8 miles on turf. Progeny of Jess’s Dream have won at an 18 percent rate going a mile or longer on dirt, and adding more fuel to the fire, Joseph is a solid 20 percent with horses going a middle distance for the first time in the past five years. :: Get ready for Gulfstream Park racing with DRF Past Performances, Picks, and Clocker Reports.  Rosie’s Halo also could be sitting on a peak performance in the third start of her form cycle. She will break from post 7 with Leonel Reyes up. Trained by Mary Lightner, Dreamster won back-to-back races before she edged Rosie’s Halo for the runner-up spot Feb. 26. Also by Jess’s Dream, Dreamster will try to rebound after coming up empty running on turf for the first time in the $110,000 Distaff Turf Trial for Florida-breds on March 26 at Tampa Bay. The 1 1/16-mile race on turf was won by now three-time stakes winner Sweet Dani Girl, who won the $75,000 Sunshine Milllion Filly or Mare Turf on Jan. 14 at Gulfstream prior to finishing 10th of 11 in the Grade 3 Honey Fox on March 4. Deamster will break from post 8 with Luca Panici aboard. The wild card in the race is Selina Kyle who has been a terror in her native country of Peru, winning 11 of her 14 starts. Trained by Amado Sanchez, Selina Kyle won her last two starts by a combined 20 3/4 lengths. Sanchez has a 28 percent strike rate and $5.91 ROI with foreign shippers since 2020. However, none of the five winners came from Peru. The 5-year-old mare will break from the outside post with Jeremy Laprida riding. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
