Rosecroft: First set of 2022 Maryland Sire Stakes champions crowned

Four $75,000 Maryland Sire Stakes finals took place on Wednesday evening at Rosecroft Raceway. The races for trotters were held as non-wagering events prior to the start of the pari-mutuel card, and the tilts for pacers comprised the early double.
The colt and gelding pace saw Anthonys All In (John Wagner) press on two-wide after leaving from post three and take command away from stablemate Donnys All In (Jared Moyer) past the 26 4/5 opening quarter. From there, Anthonys All In went on to the half in 55 2/5 and the three-quarters in 1:23 1/5, opening up a huge lead on the other horses heading to the latter mark. A 30 1/5 last quarter sealed the deal, with Anthonys All In winning by 6 1/2 lengths over Rusty's Rockin (Jonathan Roberts). Donnys All In ended up third.
Wagner also trains Anthonys All In, a Rusty's All In gelding, for owner/breeder Pamela Wagner. Anthonys All In has nine wins, two seconds, and a third from 13 career starts, and he has now earned $160,660. The 1-9 favorite, he paid $2.20 to win.
In the filly pace, 53-1 shot Maleficent K (Mark Gray) blasted to the lead from post one and carved out opening-half fractions of 27 and 55 3/5 while parking out Lloyds Ladys (J. Wagner). Past the half, Baby Doll Jen (Roberts) went three-wide from second-over, and Connies All In (Moyer) followed that move from third-over.
Baby Doll Jen cleared Lloyds Ladys to get into the first-over position as they raced in the backstretch for the final time, but Connies All In stayed three-wide and had even more momentum, surging into the lead prior to the 1:25 1/5 three-quarters while Baby Doll Jen got into the pocket. Connies All In never faced a serious threat after she got to the top, and she would go on to score by eight lengths over Baby Doll Jen in 1:55 1/5. Camon Ban (Frank Milby) finished third.
Connies All In, a daughter of Rusty's All In, is trained by John Wagner for owner-breeder Pamela Wagner. Connies All In is now a five-time winner from 13 lifetime tries, and she has now put away $73,176. She returned $3.60 to win as the 4-5 favorite.
