Rose of Malibu has right genes for Gaylord Memorial

The retired Grade 1 winner Shotgun Gulch won the first stakes race of her career in the E.L. Gaylord Memorial at Remington Park, and on Friday night, her half-sister Rose of Malibu will attempt to do the same.
“We’ve got a lot of hopes for her,” said C.R. Trout, who bred, owns, and trains Rose of Malibu.
The $50,000 Gaylord is for 2-year-old fillies over 6 1/2 furlongs. The nine-horse field includes Shes Our Fastest, the undefeated winner of the $50,000 Evangeline Downs Princess; and Laudation, a Kentucky invader out of the multiple Grade 2-winning mare Rite Moment.

Rose of Malibu, by Malibu Moon
Beyers: 60-66
◗ She was a 1 3/4-length winner of her debut in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race Aug. 31 at Remington. She rallied from next to last in the field of 12 and covered the distance in 1:04.20.
“She didn’t break too good,” Trout said, “and that’s a bad thing with those sprinters. They kind of got away from her.
“The farther she goes, the better she’s going to be. She’s going to be good around two turns.”
◗ Rose of Malibu has made one other start, finishing second in an optional $75,000 claiming race Sept. 28 at Remington. It was over six furlongs, and after breaking last from the rail, Rose of Malibu rallied to finish 1 1/4 lengths back in the race that went in a quick 1:10.60.
◗ Richard Eramia has the mount from post 5.
“She’s just screaming for more ground,” Trout said.
