Roscoe Pito best in Independence Day Handicap

Dennis Dodge|Jul 04, 2006

AUBURN, Wash. - Roscoe Pito shook off the heavily favored Norm's Nephew turning for home, then staved off the closing charge of Confidential Call to win Monday's $40,000 Independence Day Handicap by half a length in 1:41.40 for the 1 1-16 miles. Random Memo got up for third, while Norm's Nephew faded to sixth in the field of seven older runners.

Kevin Radke rode Roscoe Pito, who paid $10.40 to win. Roscoe Pito, a 6-year-old son of Light of Mine, is trained by John Snow for the partnership of Gus Gomes, Raj Mutti and John Snow. He earned $22,000 for his work on Monday, bringing his career bankroll to $573,297 from 10 wins in 26 starts.
