Roncari, owner, dead at 82

Raymond Roncari, who counted among other pursuits an involvement in horse racing, died Thursday at 82.

Roncari was a native son and prominent citizen of Windsor Locks, Conn., thus the "Winloc" appellation that was part of many of his racehorses. At the time of his death, he owned Script R. Farm in partnership with his daughter, Leslie Marconi.

Roncari was a businessman and civic activist whose racing interests at one point ranged into the Midwest: He owned a part of the graded stakes winner Western Playboy, who eventually became a prominent Illinois stallion. Roncari also owned part or all of the good horses Iron Courage, Blue Buckaroo, Winloc's Glorious, Prince of Peace, and Cherokee Chill.

A Mass, funeral procession, and burial are scheduled for Monday in Windsor Locks.
