Rombauer half-brother sells for $550,000 at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga
The Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale is responsible for the two most recent winners of the Preakness Stakes, with National Treasure selling for $500,000 in 2021 and Seize the Grey bringing $300,000 in 2022. This week, Fasig-Tipton offered a half-sibling to a Preakness winner.
A colt by young classic sire Constitution sold for $550,000 to Spendthrift Farm early in the opening session. The colt is out of the unraced Cowboy Cal mare Cashmere, whose six winners from as many starters are led by 2021 Preakness winner Rombauer, who also was third in the Belmont Stakes. This is the family of California Flag and Roaring Lion.
The colt, bred by John and Diane Fradkin, was purchased for $275,000 as a Fasig-Tipton November weanling by Joseph DiRico. He was consigned at Saratoga by Turning Point Bloodstock, as agent.
“He exudes quality from head to toe,” said Bill Johnson of Turning Point. “Great size, great walk, great physical, good mind.”
