Romansh, the winner by a neck over Godolphin stablemate Long River in the Grade 3 Excelsior Stakes, will make his next start in the Grade 1, $1.25 million Metropolitan Handicap on June 7, trainer Tom Albertrani said Wednesday. [DRF Live: Get live reports and handicapping insights from Aqueduct this Saturday; check out last weekend’s coverage] Albertrani said partly playing into the decision to run in the Met Mile was that Romansh wouldn’t have to ship out of town. Romansh did not run well at Parx last summer in the Pennsylvania Derby or at Gulfstream in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap this winter. His two best races have come at Aqueduct, where he won the Discovery and the Excelsior. Romansh won a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles around one turn at Belmont last year. “His best races have been in New York,” Albertrani said. Albertrani said shortening up to a one-turn mile should suit Romansh “because there’s usually a pretty good pace.”
