Romanised the hot horse in Prix du Moulin de Longchamp
Romanised, the winner of the Group 1 Prix Jacque le Marois at Deauville last month, can solidify his claim as the leading turf miler in Europe in Sunday’s Group 1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris.
Romanised won the $1.2 million Jacques le Marois by 1 1/4 lengths over Shaman, who is part of the field for the $496,620 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp along with third-place finisher Line of Duty.
A 4-year-old colt, Romanised is trained by Ken Condon for Robert Ng and will be ridden by Billy Lee. Romanised has won his last two starts, including the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes at seven furlongs at the Curragh in Ireland in July.
The Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, which excludes geldings, drew a field of 11. There are seven 3-year-olds in the field, including Shaman and Line of Duty.
The 3-year-old Circus Maximus returns to a mile after finishing seventh in the Group 1 Juddmonte International at 1 5/16 miles at York on Aug. 21. He had success at a mile during the summer.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Circus Maximus won the Group 1 St. James’s Palace Stakes for 3-year-olds at a mile at Royal Ascot on June 18 and was second by a half-length to Too Darn Hot in the Grade 1 Sussex Stakes at a mile at Goodwood Racecourse on July 31. Too Darn Hot was retired because of an injury shortly after the Sussex.
Phoenix of Spain, the winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas at a mile in May, is rated as a leading contender despite finishing sixth in the St. James’s Palace Stakes and sixth in the Sussex Stakes for trainer Charlie Hills.
