Rolloncat to stalk in Oklahoma Stallion Stakes

Mary Rampellini|May 01, 2014

Rolloncat might get an ideal tracking trip at Will Rogers Downs on Saturday, when he attempts to win his third consecutive race in the $50,000 colts-and-geldings division of the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes. The one-mile race for the 3-year-old offspring of nominated stallions will share a card with the $50,000 fillies division led by Churchill Downs shipper Heykittykittykitty.

Rolloncat will break from post 2 in the field of five, just outside of impressive maiden special weight sprint winner Fesstune. Rolloncat, who began his streak in December, will be ridden by Jose Medina. Martin Lozano trains Rolloncat for Steve Martin.

“I’d like him to lay second, or right there,” Lozano said. “We got a pretty good post position, so I want him close to the lead, not to come from way out of it.”

Rolloncat used his natural speed to win a first-level allowance sprint at Will Rogers Downs on March 22. The race was his first of the year, and he wired the field by 4 1/2 lengths and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 72, the best last-race number in the Stallion Stakes. Lozano was impressed that the horse, who one start prior won his maiden going long at Remington Park, fired such a strong race at a distance that is less than optimal for him.

“We ran him in that race to get ready for this one, and he ran a big race,” Lozano said. “I didn’t think he could go six furlongs, but he did it pretty easy. He’s better going longer.” Fesstune earned a 70 Beyer for winning a maiden race at six furlongs in 1:10.84 at Will Rogers on April 5. Justin Shepherd has the mount for trainer Scott Young.

Heykittykittykitty began her career in Oklahoma, but now racing for Westrock Stables and trained by Ron Moquett, she has prepped for the fillies division of the Stallion Stakes at Churchill. In her final drill for her two-turn debut Saturday, she worked five furlongs in 1:03.80 in Kentucky.

Heykittykittykitty is the most accomplished member of the seven-horse Stallion Stakes as a three-time winner who has earned $78,391. She captured a $20,000 starter allowance at Oaklawn Park in her last start April 4 and earlier in her career won a division of the $55,000 Oklahoma Stallion Stakes at Remington.

Heykittykittykitty is a daughter of Tactical Cat, who was a Grade 1 winner at two turns. Heykittykittykitty will break from post 4 under Medina.
