Rodney Prescott rides 4,000th winner

Jockey Rodney Prescott won the 4,000th Thoroughbred race of his career Thursday at Indiana Grand, when he guided We All See It to an 11 1/4-length victory in the fourth race.
The maiden special weight was for 2-year-olds at a mile. Prescott placed Well All See It just off the pace before the pair opened up on their rivals in the late stages.
Prescott is the all-time leading jockey in wins in Indiana, according to a press release from Indiana Grand. He rode his first winner on July 24, 1994 at River Downs, according to statistics from Daily Racing Form. Overall, the rider has had more than 31,130 Thoroughbred mounts and they have earned more than $57 million.
Prescott was aboard We All See It for Homewrecker Racing and Anderson Stables. The horse is trained by Eddie Kenneally. He paid $5.60.
“They didn’t give me many instructions,” Prescott told the press office at Indiana Grand. “They said to let him break and put him where he’s comfortable, and sit off the pace if we could. I knew we were in front quite a ways in the stretch before I uncocked my stick. I just wanted to keep his attention in case someone came flying up at us late.”
Prescott, 47, has won three riding titles at Indiana Grand, in 2004, 2005, and 2018. Overall, he has had more than 1,150 wins at Indiana Grand for mount earnings of more than $23 million. Prescott also has won riding titles at River Downs and Turfway Park.
“When I started off in 1994, I had no idea how long I would be riding and if you’d told me I’d still be riding 26 years later, I wouldn’t have believed it,” Prescott said. “It’s a great feeling to have the career I’ve had. I plan on riding a few more years.”
Prescott has won more than 130 races with other breeds. Daily Racing Form shows the rider has won 89 stakes in his career, with such horses as Nun the Less, Montu, and Pure Wool. This meet, Prescott has won the To Much Coffee with Bayou Cat and the Crown Ambassador with Mr. Chaos.
