Rockin Red Rhythm wins Heritage Place Juvenile to remain unbeaten
Despite a slow start, Rockin Red Rhythm won a division of the Heritage Place Futurity trials at Remington Park on May 8. His time of 18.24 seconds was not quick enough to gain a berth in the $1,314,980 final, but did give the colt a spot in the $128,000 Heritage Place Juvenile, the consolation race.
Rockin Red Rhythm had a better start in the Heritage Place Juvenile, which led to a one-length win that preserved his unbeaten record after three starts.
Ridden by Juan Pulido, Rockin Red Rhythm was the 6-5 favorite in a field of eight, and earned a timely $37,209 for owner HV Ranch of Denver. Rockin Red Rhythm was supplemented to the Heritage Place Futurity trials for $25,000.
In a sense, Rockin Red Rhythm is supposed to be a superior 2-year-old. He was purchased for $100,000 at the Ruidoso yearling sale last summer, which was conducted in Oklahoma because of coronavirus restrictions at the time in New Mexico.
Rockin Red Rhythm won his debut despite a slow start in a 300-yard maiden race at Remington Park on April 10. By the end of the month, Rockin Red Rhythm had switched stables. Kelly Heltzel, his first trainer, was summarily suspended by Remington Park stewards after one of her starters – San Lorenzo Tay – tested positive for the banned medication clenbuterol in the $926,500 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity on April 17.
Edelmiro Carrizales followed Heltzel as trainer of Rockin Red Rhythm.
In the Heritage Place Juvenile, Rockin Red Rhythm ran 350 yards in 17.54 seconds. Breaking from post 4, Rockin Red Rhythm had a half-length edge on BP CK Eagle midway through the race, a margin that increased in the final 100 yards.
BP CK Eagle, a filly by Moonin the Eagle, finished second for owner and breeder Bill Price. Olivia De Capo, who started from the outside post, avoided the trouble that plagued some runners to her outside to finish third. Olivia De Capo is a Capo De Capi filly owned and bred by Abel Flores.
The remaining order of finish was Cartel Dragon – 4th, Press Is My Hero – 5th, Sippin Hayden – 6th, Jesst For Speed – 7th, and Reimagine – 8th. Reimagine finished sixth, but was disqualified and placed eighth for interfering with Jesst For Speed at the start.
Rocket Seventeen and Trapper Jon were listed as scratched by their trainers. Trapper Jon and Reimagine were third and sixth in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity.
Rockin Red Rhythm has earned $46,233 from his three wins. By One Famous Eagle, Rockin Red Rhythm is out of the Corona Cartel mare Love Samba. In 2009 and 2010, Love Samba qualified for four major futurities and derbies at Lone Star Park and Ruidoso Downs, including a fifth-place finish as the 9-5 favorite behind Runnning Brook Gal in the $1.9 million All American Futurity in 2009.
Rockin Red Rhythm was bred by Julianna Hawn Holt, who raced Love Samba at the end of the filly’s career.
