CYPRESS, Calif. – Rockin With Energy became the fourth two-time winner of the $100,000 James Dreyer Charger Bar Handicap with a half-length victory in the 400-yard race for older Quarter Horse fillies and mares on Sunday at Los Alamitos. Rockin With Energy ($5) was third in the first 100 yards and finished well to beat 11-1 Silver Bac. Eyesa Wagon My Tale, the 7-2 second choice, finished third, a nose behind Silver Bac in a field of 10. Rockin With Energy, who was ridden by Henry Lopez, was timed in 19.84 seconds, and won for the eighth time in her 19-race career. She has earned $356,598 for owners and breeders Jay and Char Parsons and trainer Paul Jones. The Charger Bar, which this year was named in honor of the late jockey and racing official, is the leading wintertime race for older Quarter Horse fillies and mares. Sunday’s race was Rocking With Energy’s second consecutive stakes win, preceded by the Las Damas Handicap at 400 yards at Los Alamitos on Nov. 22. Jones said in the winner’s circle on Sunday that Rockin With Energy may be bred via embryo transfer in coming months before resuming her racing career later this year. The same format occurred with Rockin With Energy in 2025. The Charger Bar Handicap was first run in 2001. Rockin With Energy joins Stylish Jess Br (2010-2011), Quirky (2015-2016) and Kiss Thru Fire (2021-2022) as two-time winners. Jones has won the race a record seven times.
