SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Rocketry, a multiple track-record holder at marathon distances and earner of $811,577, has been retired, his owner, Centennial Farms Inc., announced Thursday in a press release. Rocketry, a 7-year-old son of Hard Spun, finished a well-beaten fourth in the Birdstone Stakes on Aug. 5, his third double-digit-length defeat this year. Trained by Jimmy Jerkens, Rocketry had a record of 6-5-6 from 29 starts. He was a three-time stakes winner. In 2018, he won the Temperence Hill Stakes at Belmont Park, running 1 5/8 miles in 2:40.18, eclipsing a 98-year-old mark held by Man o’ War. That same year, he won the Grade 2 Marathon Stakes at Churchill Downs, where he set a track record of 2:57.62 for 1 3/4 miles. Rocketry also won last fall’s Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Marathon at Keeneland on Breeders’ Cup Friday.
