Rock Shandy eyes Cecil B. DeMille Stakes
Rock Shandy won on opening day at Del Mar, and could try to bookend the meet with a win on closing day. After defeating maidens last week in his first try around two turns, he could come back in the Grade 3, $150,000 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes for 2-year-olds on Nov. 30, according to trainer Peter Miller.
“Hopefully he’s turned the corner,” said Miller, who said he would decide on whether to go in the DeMille after conferring with Jerry Crawford, who runs the Donegal Racing partnership that owns Rock Shandy.
Rock Shandy had a troubled trip when sprinting in his debut on the downhill course at Santa Anita on Oct. 10. He subsequently won going a mile on turf, the same conditions as the DeMille.
The DeMille was known as the Generous Stakes when run at Hollywood Park.
◗ Fascinating, a $1.3 million yearling buy who was twice Grade 1-placed at age 2 but is still a maiden, makes her second start following a 12 1/2-month layoff in race 1 on Saturday. This will be her first start with blinkers.
