Rocco hopes stakes win is just the start
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
Joe Rocco Jr. is among a host of new jockeys trying to make it in New York this winter. Rocco got off to a good start when he guided Quezon to victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Garland of Roses Stakes at Aqueduct.
Rocco has spent the last three winters riding at Oaklawn Park. He decided to try New York this winter, citing good purses and the opportunity to work with agent Jason Beides.
“I’ve been friends with Jason and wanted to hook up, and it looks like a good opportunity to put a lot money in the bank,” Rocco said.

The win aboard Quezon was his first in seven mounts at Aqueduct.
“You got to get off to a good start any new meet that you go to,” Rocco said. “Thank God we got the first one out of the way and it was a good one.”
Martin Garcia and Paco Lopez have already been in New York preparing for the winter. Trevor McCarthy and Jeremy Rose are also expected to be here in the coming weeks.
Ricardo Santana Jr. is riding this month in New York, but he is expected to move his tack to Oaklawn when that meet opens in January.
