Robertson to retire from role as Keeneland’s vice president of sales

Walt Robertson will retire from his day-to-day duties as Keeneland’s vice president of sales on June 30 but will remain with the company as part of its auctioneer team as the lead on the annual Sporting Art Auction and assisting in special projects.

Robertson joined Keeneland in January 2011 under the newly created position of vice president of sales after 35 years at Fasig-Tipton, where he climbed the ranks from bid spotting to serve as senior auctioneer, president, and chairman of Fasig-Tipton’s Advisory Board of Directors. In his position at Keeneland, Robertson oversaw and directed all functions at the sales and once again took the stand as an auctioneer.

“It has been an honor and pleasure to work for the world’s largest Thoroughbred sales company, and there is no entity in our business that does it like Keeneland,” Robertson said. “I have been fortunate to be a part of this great institution and look forward to continuing to help Keeneland advance its mission to the industry and the community. I am excited about having greater flexibility to spend more time with my grandkids, who live on the West Coast, and travel with my wife, Corky.”

Bill Thomason, Keeneland’s president and chief executive, will take over the leadership role of Keeneland’s sales division, continuing his work alongside the team already in place.
