Robert Levine, trainer, dead at 86

David Grening|Mar 17, 2005

Robert Levine, a Thoroughbred owner who began training horses when he was 64 years old, died Thursday morning at age 86.

Levine is the father of New York Racing Association-based trainer Bruce Levine. Both Levines trained the filly Koluctoo's Jill, who in Bruce Levine's name won the Ashland, Black-Eyed Susan, and Ruthless as a 3-year-old in 1985.

On March 5, Robert Levine won the Grade 2 Bonnie Miss at Gulfstream Park with Jill Robin L, a horse he trained and owned in partnership with Robert Braumsdorf.

There is a service scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday at Gutterman Funeral Home, 175 N. Long Beach Rd., in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
