Roar On Tour wins Gulf Coast Breeders' Cup

Roar On Tour closed into a hot pace on Saturday night to post a 29-1 upset in the $125,000 Gulf Coast Breeders' Cup, the closing night feature at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.

High Strike Zone finished a half-length back in second, three and a quarter lengths in front of favorite and third-place finisher Mauk Four.

Roar On Tour ($61.40) settled about seven lengths behind pacesetter High Strike Zone and Britt's Jules, who dueled through fractions of 23.12 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.14 seconds for the half-mile mark. High Strike Zone continued to lead through six furlongs in 1:11.72, as Roar On Tour mounted his bid then overtook him in the late stages, covering the mile and a sixteenth over a fast track in 1:46.

Brian Hernandez rode Roar On Tour for trainer Dale Angelle. The winner earned $75,000 for his first stakes win, and overall has a record of 13 wins from 32 starts for earnings of $271,364. He races for Lon Baronne.
