Roadster to run in Affirmed Stakes on Sunday

ARCADIA, Calif. – Roadster, winner of the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 6 but 15th in the Kentucky Derby on May 4, is part of a projected field of five in Sunday’s Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita.
The $100,000 Affirmed Stakes for 3-year-olds is run at 1 1/16 miles and could produce a few runners for the Grade 3 Los Alamitos Derby at 1 1/8 miles on July 13.
Owned by Speedway Stable and trained by Bob Baffert, Roadster finished 16th in the Kentucky Derby, beaten 16 1/2 lengths by Maximum Security, who was disqualified and placed 17th for causing interference on the turn.
Roadster, who raced wide throughout the Kentucky Derby, was promoted to 15th after the disqualification.
Roadster has won 3 of 5 starts and earned $706,200. The Santa Anita Derby was his first stakes win.
Other probable starters in the Affirmed are Mucho Gusto and Manhattan Up, who were first and second in the Grade 3 Lazaro Barrera Stakes at seven furlongs on May 18; Always Forgiven, a maiden race winner on May 11; and Visitant, a stakes winner at Golden Gate Fields.
