Rivers Run Deep stretches out for Green Carpet Stakes
CINCINNATI – Rivers Run Deep will try to stretch his speed to two turns Sunday in the $50,000 Green Carpet Stakes at Belterra Park.
Trained by Cody Autrey, Rivers Run Deep already has an impressive win over the Belterra Park oval. On May 8, the 3-year-old won the $50,000 Tall Stack Stakes by nearly 13 lengths while being ridden out. The Tall Stack was a 6 1/2-furlong event, and the Green Carpet is 1 1/16 miles for 3-year-old Ohio-registered horses.
It was the first win of the year for Rivers Run Deep. In his first outing this year, Rivers Run Deep ran third to Ride On Curlin by 4 1/2 lengths in an allowance race Jan. 12 at Oaklawn Park. Ride On Curlin most recently finished second in the Grade 1 Preakness at Pimlico. Rivers Run Deep finished second in his next two outings, an allowance race and an optional claimer. All three races were at six furlongs.
In his last start in Arkansas before heading to Belterra, he finished sixth, beaten by nearly six lengths, in the $100,000 Northern Spur Stakes while going a mile after overcoming trouble at the start. Jareth Loveberry retains the mount.
Doctoriat has won 2 of 3 lifetime starts but has yet to try two turns. Trained by Sandra Atkins, Doctoriat won at first asking March 31 at Mountaineer Park. He then finished second April 19 in the $50,000 H.B. Noonan Stakes at Beulah Park before winning a statebred entry-level allowance at ThistleDown on May 10 by seven lengths. Albin Jimenez will ride for the first time. Eight horses were entered in the Green Carpet.
