River Rocks to try a mile in Kelso Handicap

ELMONT, N.Y. – River Rocks, a winner of three consecutive sprints since arriving in John Terranova’s barn, is bound for the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap on Sept. 27.
River Rocks, a son of Western Pride, will be attempting a mile for the first time after dominating races from six to seven furlongs. On Aug. 31, he rolled to a 6 1/2-length victory in a third-level allowance race, earning a 110 Beyer Speed Figure.
“He’s been perfect since we got him,” said Terranova, who trains River Rocks for James Covello, Michael Imperio, and Carmine Inserra’s Half Hollow Stable. “He’s bigger, stronger, faster, and continues to go the right way.”
River Rocks began his career with Michael Yates, who won a maiden race with him in his second start before the horse was purchased privately by Covello, Imperio, and Inserra.
As a 3-year-old, River Rocks was trained by Wayne Catalano before being moved to Terranova earlier this year.
“He trained like a real good horse, looked like a real good horse when he came in,” Terranova said. “We all knew he had real ability.”
Terranova also confirmed that El Kabeir, a 10 3/4-length maiden winner Aug. 30 at Saratoga, will make his next start Oct. 4 here in the Grade 1 Champagne.
