River Downs: Muir Woods takes Queen City Oaks

Muir Woods remained perfect at River Downs and in Ohio with a victory in the $75,000 Norm Barron Queen City Oaks at River Downs on Saturday afternoon.

A full field of 12 Ohio-bred 3-year-old fillies went to post in the 1 1/8-mile event. Jockey Mario Madrid kept Muir Woods to the outside and in mid-pack to the far turn before rallying with a visibly impressive move to draw off in the stretch. The final margin of victory was 3 3/4 lengths.

Trained by Tim Hamm, Muir Woods is 2 for 2 at River Downs, having previously won the Tomboy on May 14 in her only other local start. Startin Something, also trained by Hamm, finished second, 24 lengths in front of Bold and Beautiful in third. Muir Woods returned $4.40 to win and finished in 1.57.26 over a fast track.
