River Downs drops stall bans

Several horsemen who had been denied stall space last month at River Downs are now being allotted stalls at the Cincinnati track, according to a statement the track issued Tuesday.

The statement from the track's general manager, Jack Hanessian, said that officials had "reconsidered" the denials to standout trainer Jim Morgan and to owner-breeders Pat Buse and Rolf Obrecht. The dividing issue has been gaming at Ohio racetracks, which the three men have said they support, but not on the terms that leaders in the Ohio racing industry have tentatively agreed upon.

Morgan, the all-time leading stakes-winning trainer at River Downs, typically has as many as 30 horses, including some for Buse. Obrecht has about 15 horses with other trainers.

River Downs starts its meet April 9.
