Risk Tolerance a heavy favorite in turf allowance

ELMONT, N.Y. – Risk Tolerance looms a short-priced favorite in Thursday’s second-level allowance/optional $80,000 claiming feature scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on turf that goes as race 3 on an eight-race Belmont Park card.
Trained by Chad Brown, Risk Tolerance is coming out of a fourth-place finish, beaten just three-quarters of a length by front-running Kapuna, in the $200,000 Bernard Baruch Stakes on Sept. 3 at Saratoga.
In his start prior to that, Risk Tolerance won a first-level allowance going one mile at Saratoga, a race that produced three next-out winners.
Risk Tolerance, a 5-year-old son of Kingman, figures to come from off the pace under Flavien Prat in this 1 1/16-mile allowance heat. He goes back on Lasix, anti-bleeding medication that he is not permitted to use in stakes.
Capture the Flag, trained by Todd Pletcher, won the Grade 2 Mac Diarmida going 1 3/8 miles in March 2025. He was away from the races for more than a year when he finished sixth and then fourth in this similar allowance/optional-claiming condition. He has enough tactical speed to be a forward factor in this spot under Manny Franco.
Sherlock’s Jewel was beaten just a half-length in this same condition on the opening-day card here Sept. 18. That was his first start off the claim for $80,000 by Joe Sharp, who is keeping him at this level. On Thursday, Sharp is adding linkers to Sherlock’s Jewel’s equipment.
Tee At One, trained by Steve Klesaris, comes off a second-place finish in a starter allowance/optional claimer at Gulfstream.
Energize, trained by Michael Stidham for Godolphin, finished third in his first start on turf Sept. 6 at Colonial Downs.
Verus and Discreet Dancer complete the field.
