Rising Inflation began racing in her native Louisiana this summer and on Thursday’s opener at Fair Grounds won her fourth race from five starts in the state in the $100,000 John Valene Memorial. She drew clear by 4 1/2 lengths over Norah G. It was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third to Clearly a Test. The Valene was one of two Louisiana-bred stakes on the card. Mr Mo Money ($45.40) upset the $100,000 Joseph R. Peluso Memorial. Rising Inflation ($3.60), who began her career in New York, was moved to Louisiana after being purchased at a Keeneland auction in April. She was content to settle off the pace Thursday, as Pickin Ana Grinnin took the field through an opening quarter in 24.40 seconds, a half-mile in 48.32 and six furlongs in 1:13.77. It was Castillo’s first win at Fair Grounds after spending much of his career riding on the East Coast. He plans to ride in New Orleans this winter, according to his agent, Dylan Fazio. Rising Inflation won a pair of allowances by double digits in June and July at Evangeline Downs before becoming a stakes winner in the Louisiana Cup Distaff in August at Louisiana Downs. She came into the Valene off a fourth-place finish in the Magnolia in October at Delta Downs. Rising Inflation is a daughter of Mitole who races for Mark Rose, Slam Dunk Racing, and Dennis D. Bailey. She has now won 5 of 10 starts for earnings of $223,550. Mr Mo Money became a stakes winner when he advanced three wide on the final turn and went on to a 1 1/2-length win over Our Moneyman in the Peluso, which was for 2-year-olds at six furlongs. Mr Mo Money covered the distance in 1:11.70. Tommy Pompell was aboard the winner for trainer Brett Brinkman. Mr Mo Money is a son of Mr. Money who races for Walter Horton. He has now won 2 of 6 starts and earned $124,850. Mr Mo Money had run second or third in three other stakes ahead of the Peluso.
