Rimrock Lake, Special Diva capture divisions of Washington Cup Juvenile
Mild upsets were the order of the day Sunday in the divisions of the $50,000 Washington Cup Juvenile races, each contested over 6 1/2 furlongs at Emerald Downs.
In the colts and geldings division, second-time starter Rimrock Lake stalked the pace of Chancellors Boom (22.18 seconds and 45.30) before cruising by on the outside and opening up a commanding lead. The eventual winning margin was 7 1/2 lengths, and the winner stopped the clock in 1:18.81 with Jennifer Whitaker aboard over a fast strip.
Even-money favorite Knightline ended up second, and he was 3 3/4 lengths ahead of longshot Allante, who ran third.
Rimrock Lake is by Raised a Secret and out of Nightwalker, by Parker's Storm Cat. The winning owner was Clemans View Farm, with Howard Belvoir the trainer. The winner paid $13.80 to his scattered backers.
The fillies' division run an hour later went to Jeff Cissell's Special Diva, who was ridden by Isaias Enriquez. The winner had the tactical advantage of the outside post and from it she patiently stalked the pace before moving up three wide to join the leaders and cruising away to a 2 3/4-length victory.
The winner is by Misremembered and out of Special Holiday, by Private Gold. She is trained by Vince Gibson. Special Diva completed 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:19.43 and returned a handsome $19 to win.
Heavy favorite Neissa was used considerably when dueling for the early lead from the inside and could not turn away the winner. She continued gallantly to be second, three lengths clear of longshot Coastal Girl, who was third.
